Kia, thanks to Hyundai, has also become a point of reference in North America. Growth has been vertical over the past few years. The K5 sedan is sold globally in different versions. The first generation cars were primarily marketed as Optima, even though the name Kia Magentis was used in Europe and Canada when sales began in 2002.
For the second series the manufacturer used the names Kia Lotze and Kia K5 for the South Korean market and the name Magentis globally, except in North America, Malaysia and the Middle East, where the name Optima was retained until Model Year 2021. The name K5 has been chosen for all markets since the introduction of the fifth generation.

Kia is initiating a notable recall affecting approximately 232,000 K5 sedans due to a potential fuel leak.The automaker was alerted to the issue following multiple reports of fuel leaks and fuel odors emanating from affected vehicles.
Engineers traced the problem to a deterioration of the check valve within the purge control system, leading to a buildup of suction pressure inside the fuel tank. This recall specifically impacts models equipped with the 1.6 liter turbo T-GDI engine, while the 2.5 liter variant is not affected.
Fortunately,Kia reports no injuries have been linked to this issue thus far.Though, the large scale of the recall poses a ample risk of image and financial repercussions for the Korean manufacturer.

what is the Problem?
According to a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects certain Kia Telluride and Sorento models (model years 2020-2024). The issue centers around a perhaps defective trailer hitch harness. Specifically, the harness can allow water to come into contact with the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module, potentially causing corrosion and increasing the risk of an electrical short, wich could lead to a fire even when the vehicle is parked.

The recall includes the following vehicles:
- Kia Telluride: 2020-2024 models
- Kia Sorento: 2020-2024 models
