Kid Rock has announced a 17-song Christian music album titled Halfway 2 Jesus, slated for release on October 17th, alongside the release of his single “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King),” according to Consequence. The album marks a significant thematic departure from the artist’s early catalog, putting explicit Christian beliefs and values front and center across a tracklist that also includes a cover of Lee Greenwood’s anthem “God Bless the USA.”
Kid Rock Unveils Faith-Based Album and Single
The project follows Kid Rock’s 2022 album Bad Reputation and features song titles such as “Water Into Wine,” “Me and Jesus,” and “God Is Good.” The album artwork visually captures the project’s title, showing the musician halfway to Jesus with the devil positioned at his back.
Speaking about his motivations for the record, Kid Rock told Fox & Friends in August that his upbringing in Catholic and Baptist churches left him searching for specific musical styles. “Growing up Catholic and going to Catholic church, I was always like, ‘I have to confess this is boring. This music is terrible,’” he said, adding that he looked to non-denominational churches for better music before deciding to write songs celebrating his faith through rock and roll, country, and hip-hop.
Collaborations and Dedications on Halfway to Jesus
The album brings together a diverse mix of guest artists spanning genres. Country vocalists Gary LeVox and Jimmie Allen also join the project on the title track.
Alongside the musical collaborations, the release is accompanied by dedicated tributes. The music video for “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King)” is dedicated to Jimmie Bones, the longtime keyboardist for Kid Rock’s backing band The Twisted Brown Tucker Band, who is currently living with ALS.
