Lieutenant General Alexeyev is a close associate and deputy of GRU chief Igor Kostyukov, who is leading the Russian delegation to negotiations on a possible settlement of the conflict.
The attack took place on Friday in Moscow. According to the Russian media, an unknown perpetrator shot several times at Vladimir Alexeyev in the apartment building where the general lives, specifically on the 24th floor. The attacker fled the scene and has not yet been caught.
Alexeyev was taken to one of the Moscow hospitals after the shooting.
