Men’s Basketball Falls to barton 88-78
WILSON, N.C.- Mount Olive defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene 88-78 in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Wilson Gymnasium.
The trojans shot 52.9 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc, while the University of Mount Olive shot 48.4 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range.
Mount Vernon Nazarene started strong, leading by as many as 11 points in the first half. However, Barton chipped away at the lead and took a 44-41 advantage into halftime.
The second half saw Barton extend their lead, utilizing a balanced scoring attack. Four Barton players scored in double figures, led by Isaiah Buck-Corral with 20 points. Mount Vernon Nazarene struggled to contain Barton’s offence, and the Trojans ultimately secured the victory.
For Mount Vernon Nazarene, Jalen Thomas led the way with 18 points. Kyle Laywell added 14 points, and Jacob Royer contributed 12.
Barton (3-1, 1-0 Conference Carolinas) will next travel to the University of Mount Olive on Friday, November 21st, for a 7:00 PM EST matchup. mount Vernon Nazarene (2-2, 0-1 Conference Carolinas) will look to rebound in their next contest.
