Corruption Investigation in ukraine’s Energy Sector
Recent developments indicate a meaningful corruption investigation is underway in Ukraine’s energy sector, spearheaded by the national Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU). The investigation centers around allegations of large-scale theft of funds within Energoatom, the country’s national nuclear energy company.
- On November 10th, NABU conducted searches involving former Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energoatom officials, and also released audio recordings purportedly detailing the corruption scheme. Prior to these actions, sources reported that NABU searched businessman Timur mindich and the office of Minister of Justice Herman Galushchenko. Reports also indicate that Mindich left the country shortly before the searches commenced.
- November 11th, journalists identified all individuals who have received suspicion notices in connection with the investigation into the alleged corruption within Energoatom. According to the Schemes project, Timur Mindich (referred to as “Carlson” in the audio recordings) is among those implicated.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as NABU continues its work. The released audio recordings and search warrants suggest a concerted effort to uncover and address corruption at a high level within Ukraine’s energy sector.
