Korg Announces Phase8: A Unique Acoustic Synthesizer

Korg has introduced the Phase8, an innovative instrument that blends acoustic sound generation with modern electronic control. Described as an “acoustic synthesizer,” the Phase8 utilizes eight independent electromechanical voices, creating sound through swappable steel resonators.

These resonators, resembling kalimba tines, are metal forks that produce tones when activated. Each unit ships with 13 chromatically tuned resonators,allowing for a diverse range of sonic possibilities,with eight installable at any given time. The Phase8 encourages direct interaction; resonators can be tapped, touched, or plucked in real-time to generate melodic lines and rhythmic textures. Furthermore, users can experiment with placing objects on the resonators to alter the sound.

A dedicated slider controls the acoustic response, offering further manipulation of the instrument’s character. Korg integrates this acoustic foundation with electronic capabilities, including a built-in polymetric sequencer and modulation options. Connectivity is comprehensive, featuring MIDI In/Out via 3.5mm TRS,USB MIDI,sync in/out,and a CV input for seamless integration with external devices.
