Koubek’s Bold Czech Republic Squad: Čvančara and Černý Left Out

Miroslav Koubek has announced his first squad as the head coach of the Czech Republic national team, sparking debate with the omission of several high-profile players ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifying playoff matches. Notably, Tomáš Čvančara and Václav Černý were not included in the squad, a decision Koubek defended by citing concerns over team dynamics and commitment.

Čvančara and Černý Excluded

The most surprising exclusions from Koubek’s squad are those of Tomáš Čvančara and Václav Černý. Čvančara, currently playing for Celtic, recently indicated that his club career is his current priority, a statement that influenced Koubek’s decision. “He expressed that the national team is not a priority for him at the moment, so I, as coach, do not have a priority to take such a player,” Koubek stated according to Livesport.cz.

Černý’s absence is also notable, with Koubek suggesting both mental and playing style concerns.

Focus on Team Cohesion and “Troublemakers”

Koubek emphasized a desire for a cohesive team environment, suggesting that Čvančara, Černý and Jan Kuchta, while talented, could potentially disrupt team harmony. He referred to them as “troublemakers” who might not fully commit to the team’s objectives, particularly when not in the starting lineup. EuropeSays.com reports that Koubek believes these players could create negativity within the squad.

“By omitting the aforementioned trio, the coach sent a message – there is no room for ‘troublemakers’ in my team,” a report from EuropeSays.com stated.

Squad Includes Bucha and Višinský

Despite the omissions, Koubek’s squad includes Pavel Bucha, currently playing for Cincinnati in the MLS, and Denis Višinský, who has been filling in for Pavel Šulc at Plzeň. Koubek highlighted Bucha’s creativity and consistent performance in the MLS as key factors in his selection. He also noted that Šulc’s availability is looking positive, with his recovery progressing well, but his playing time with Lyon will be crucial in determining his inclusion.

“We are in contact with him and it looks positive. Treatment has progressed to the final stage and a decision will be made this week,” Koubek said, as reported by Livesport.cz.

Looking Ahead

Koubek’s bold selections signal a clear vision for the Czech Republic national team. The success of this approach will depend on the team’s performance in the upcoming World Cup qualifying playoffs. The coach’s gamble to prioritize team cohesion over individual star power will be closely scrutinized, and his future with the national team may hinge on the outcome of these crucial matches.
