A resident of Krasnodar faces up to three years in prison after police arrested him for the brutal killing of a neighbor’s dog, according to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Krasnodar Krai.

Arrest in Krasnodar Krai Over Animal Cruelty Charges

According to regional police authorities, the incident took place in the Topol horticultural non-profit partnership (SNT). Investigators state that the suspect initially set his own dogs on the animal before decapitating it with a machete. Law enforcement records show the detained man has prior criminal convictions for robbery and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Krasnodar Krai confirmed that investigators formally opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 245 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which covers animal cruelty. Under this charge, the suspect faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison.

Statements From the Accused

During questioning by journalists, the suspect claimed that the dog acted aggressively, repeatedly lunging at him and biting him on multiple occasions. The accused stated that he warned the animal he would kill it if it failed to obey him.

“I told her I would cut off her head. I keep my word.”

Related Enforcement Actions Across the Region

The Krasnodar Krai police directorate reported a separate animal cruelty case originating in late June in the stanitsa of Kalininskaya. In that incident, a stray dog became trapped in the metal fence of a 73-year-old local resident’s private property.

Rather than contacting rescue services, the elderly homeowner used wire to kill the trapped animal, according to police findings. Law enforcement opened a criminal case against the woman under Part 1 of Article 245 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, exposing her to a potential three-year prison sentence as the investigation continues.
