Kristi Huber: From Corporate Leadership to Entrepreneurship in Fargo

Former United Way of Cass-Clay President and CEO Kristi Huber has transitioned into entrepreneurship in Fargo, launching two new consulting and advisory ventures, Perspective Shift Consulting and Välv Advisors.

Launching Perspective Shift Consulting and Välv Advisors in Fargo

Kristi Huber has spent years building community partnerships and leading prominent Fargo-Moorhead organizations, including a tenure leading the United Way of Cass-Clay and a subsequent leadership role at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota. After years within established corporate and nonprofit structures, Huber shifted her focus toward business ownership. She launched Perspective Shift Consulting in 2025 to handle speaking engagements and guide leaders through burnout, personal growth, and purpose. Over the summer, she expanded that work by founding Välv Advisors alongside Andy Reierson to offer business strategy, executive team advising, and succession planning.

The entrepreneurial pivot surprised some peers who questioned the timing later in her career. Huber embraced the change as an opportunity to prioritize her faith, family, and husband, Gregg, with whom she recently achieved a bucket-list goal of visiting all 32 National Hockey League arenas. During National Women's Small Business Month, Huber has used her platform to encourage other women to use their accumulated experience to build independent enterprises rather than fearing failure.

Mentoring Emerging Female Leaders at United Way

During her executive career, Huber helped develop the 35 Under 35 Women's Leadership Program, which cultivates emerging female leaders across the region. In February, Huber is scheduled to return to the United Way to speak to the program’s latest participants. Rather than addressing the group as a chief executive officer, she will speak from her new vantage point as an entrepreneur and adviser, sharing lessons learned from professional transitions and career burnout.

Huber’s professional philosophy centers heavily on interpersonal connection and belonging, a trait she traces back to growing up on a Minnesota farm. She noted that caring deeply about people sometimes creates professional friction when daily responsibilities crowd out personal engagement. Through both of her new ventures, she aims to help other executives evaluate whether their schedules offer sufficient autonomy and whether their personal values truly align with their daily work.
