Kristiansand Apartment Fire Evacuates Residents, Police Investigate
Between 12 and 14 residents were evacuated from an apartment building in Kristiansand, Norway, early Wednesday morning after a fire broke out in a stairwell. Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze and are appealing for information from the public.
Fire Reported and Extinguished Quickly
The fire was reported shortly after 3:00 AM and was extinguished shortly thereafter, according to operations manager Eyvind Formo of the Agder police district (NRK). Smoke divers entered the building to ensure it was clear of occupants due to heavy smoke in the hallway.
Residents Allowed to Return
Following ventilation of the building, all residents were permitted to return to their apartments. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
Police Investigation Underway
Formo stated that there is no apparent natural cause for a fire to occur in a stairwell, prompting a police investigation. Authorities are requesting that anyone with information about the fire, including those who may have relevant footage from security cameras or other recording devices, come forward. (NRK)
Police Have Control of Residents
The police have confirmed they have accounted for all registered residents of the building. (NRK)
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Agder police district. Contact information can be found on the Politiet.no website.
