NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch released a public statement on his social media accounts, reflecting on his decades-long racing bond and fierce sibling rivalry with his late younger brother, Kyle Busch, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. In an Instagram post featuring several photographs of the brothers together, Kurt Busch thanked supporters for reaching out to the family following Kyle’s death.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Kurt Busch attended the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, on May 23. The event marked the first Cup Series race held since Kyle’s death. Accompanied by his father, Tom, and mother, Gaye, Kurt Busch placed eight white roses on the infield grass where Kyle’s No. 8 was painted.

In his social media statement, Kurt Busch shared memories of their upbringing and careers in motorsport. “Finding a silver lining, I reflect back on the days Kyle and I raced anything we could get our hands on,” the post stated, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “From big wheels to competing on the biggest stages in motorsports, we were more than just fierce competitors. We pushed each other, challenged each other and learned from each other.”

Family and Legacy Across Motorsports

Kurt Busch emphasized the personal impact of his younger brother’s career and character. “Kyle, your passion, determination and love for your family inspired everyone who knew you,” Kurt Busch wrote in the post cited by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “No trophy, championship or accomplishment could ever measure the impact you had on my life and so many others.”

Kyle’s 11-year-old son, Brexton, also posted photographs of himself racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway from the previous week on his X and Instagram accounts, though he included no written captions or messages, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal reporting.

Kurt Busch concluded his statement by looking back on their shared journey in racing. “I will forever be grateful for the memories we made, the lessons you taught me and the brotherhood we shared,” he wrote, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “My heart is broken, but I know your spirit will always ride with me. Rest easy, little brother.”
