Los Angeles Braces for Storm: Flood Warnings, Evacuations Issued

Los Angeles County is preparing for a significant winter storm bringing heavy rain and potential thunderstorms, prompting flood warnings, evacuation alerts, and widespread safety precautions. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple advisories, including a Flash Flood Warning until 5:00 PM PST on Monday, February 16, 2026, and a Flood Watch extending through Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

Evacuation Warnings in Effect

Evacuation warnings are currently in effect for select areas near recent wildfire burn scars. Residents in these areas are urged to remain vigilant and be prepared to evacuate should an evacuation order be issued. Severe Weather Threats

The NWS warns of potential severe weather conditions, including the possibility of tiny tornadoes, 60 mph winds, and rainfall rates of up to one inch per hour. Residents near vulnerable areas are encouraged to take immediate precautions.

City and County Response

Mayor Karen Bass emphasized the city’s preparedness, stating that first responders, Public Works crews, and city personnel are taking action to ensure resident safety and will be ready to respond to potential impacts. Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Hilda Solis confirmed the county’s readiness, with collaboration between the Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department, Department of Public Works, and Office of Emergency Management.

Support for Vulnerable Populations

The county is prioritizing the safety of its most vulnerable residents. The Department of Homeless Services and Housing is coordinating outreach to inform individuals in high-risk areas about available resources and shelter options. Motel vouchers have been activated to supplement existing shelter capacity, and outreach teams will continue to prioritize motel placements throughout the weekend.
