La Palma del Condado Launches Reforestation and Environmental Improvement Projects

La Palma del Condado, Huelva, is embarking on ambitious reforestation and environmental improvement initiatives, with a particular focus on the area surrounding the Corumbel reservoir and various streets within the municipality. These projects are the result of a collaborative effort between the La Palma del Condado City Council and the Junta of Andalusia.

Collaboration with the Junta of Andalusia

The initiatives were discussed during a recent meeting between Rocío Moreno Domínguez, the mayor of La Palma del Condado, and Sergio Arjona, the Vice-Minister of Sustainability and Environment of the Junta of Andalusia . The council requested trees specifically for the reforestation of both natural and urban spaces.

Key Project Components

Beyond tree planting, the council is as well planning several other environmental improvements, including:

  • Regeneration of existing livestock routes.
  • The creation of a green perimeter ring around the urban center, designed to expand green areas and promote environmental connectivity.

Technical Details and Municipal Strategy

Francisco Sánchez, the Councilor for the Environment, and Juan José Lepe Moro, a municipal technician, participated in the meeting, providing technical details about the planned actions and the municipality’s needs . The City Council emphasizes that these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance the natural environment and improve the quality of life for residents, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and adapting the municipality to environmental criteria.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

This collaboration between administrations underscores a shared commitment to strengthening environmental protection and promoting sustainable development throughout the province of Huelva . Rocío Moreno Domínguez became the first female mayor of La Palma del Condado on October 19, 2024, following the resignation of Manuel García Félix, who assumed a role as a deputy in the Cortes Generales.
