Lachmal Theater Celebrates 30 Years with New Comedy in Obertshausen

Lachmal-Theater Returns with New Comedy After 30 Years of Community Support

The Lachmal-Theater, a community theater group in Obertshausen, Germany, will present its latest comedy, „Wo zur Hölle geht’s zum Himmel?“ on October 9, 10, 16, and 17, 2026, marking its 30th year of performances. The play, which explores bureaucratic absurdities and existential questions, follows the theater’s tradition of using humor to fund social initiatives, having raised nearly €200,000 since its founding, [op-online.de] reported.”

A Legacy of Laughter and Philanthropy

Founded in 1996, the Lachmal-Theater has become a staple of Obertshausen’s cultural calendar. Its roots trace back to 1965, when a predecessor group, the Malteser Hilfsdienst, began staging performances to raise funds for a hospital ambulance.

The group’s performances have prioritized community welfare. Proceeds from ticket sales, food, and drinks have supported a dozen social projects and people in current emergencies. The group has had 30,000-plus attendees since 1996.

New Play Blends Absurdity and Social Commentary

„Wo zur Hölle geht’s zum Himmel?“ („Where the Hell Does the Heaven Go?“), written by Andreas Wening, follows a master painter, Wilhelm Holme, who finds himself as a defendant in a court administration. The play juxtaposes heavenly and infernal imagery with satirical takes on red tape and gender dynamics.

Rehearsals for the production began in March, with the cast utilizing the Joseph-von-Eichendorff-Schule’s Mehrzweckhalle. The set was built by Spielleiter Stephan Rauschkolb, Baumeister Markus Geiger, and their team, featuring a heavy desk, cloud pictures, and a “Himmelsleiter” (heavenly ladder). The production also features angels distributing flyers and a devil suffering from burnout, according to [op-online.de].””

Tickets Are Available Through Local Shops and Online

Tickets for the play are priced at €15 or €12. Sales are managed through the local Büchertreff and Hoffmann spielen-schreiben-schenken, as well as the theater’s website, [lachmal-theater.de/abendkassereservierung]. The venue, located at Waldstraße, opens at 18:30 for evening shows starting at 19:30.
