What sumrall’s florida Interview Cancellation Means for Lane Kiffin

Tulane coach Jon Sumrall had an interview scheduled with the University of Florida for their head coaching position. It’s now off the books. But what does this have to do with Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin?

According to On3, Sumrall won’t be meeting with Florida on October 20th. Earlier reports indicated Florida planned to interview him about the Gators job.

Kiffin himself has been a name tossed around for both the Florida and LSU coaching vacancies. It appears he’s a candidate both schools are considering. If Kiffin were to leave Ole Miss, sumrall is thought to be a potential replacement. He’s familiar with the program, having served as the linebackers coach in 2018.

This situation is fluid. It’s possible Florida will pursue other candidates,and Kiffin’s future remains uncertain. One might suggest Sumrall being removed from the Florida discussion could open the door for Kiffin to take that job,or it could simply mean Florida is widening its search.

For Ole Miss fans, it all comes down to keeping Kiffin. But they should also be aware of Sumrall’s potential as a successor if things don’t work out.
