According to reports from local news outlet KSNV, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers responded to a residence on the 4500 block of Pigeon Point Court on August 10 after Drummond reported that her boyfriend, Jason Simmons, was attempting to burn her with a blowtorch while her teenage daughter was inside the home. When officers entered the property, they discovered multiple small fires burning indoors alongside Drummond, who was already suffering from a gunshot wound.
Barricade Situation and Officer Injury
As officers cleared the residence, they encountered a locked master bedroom door. According to police statements cited by KSNV, Officer Zaira Venegas-Hernandez attempted to kick the door open, prompting Simmons to fire several shots through it. The gunfire struck Officer Venegas-Hernandez, whose ballistic vest stopped the bullet from penetrating fully. Venegas-Hernandez returned fire as officers secured the area, leading to a designated barricade situation.
Tragic Discovery Inside the Residence
Following the standoff, investigators determined that Simmons had shot himself. Upon re-entering the home, police found Drummond’s teenage daughter suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. Both Simmons and the teenage girl were pronounced dead at the scene. Officer Venegas-Hernandez was transported to a hospital for treatment and survived the incident.
