Latvian “Kilogram of Cultures” Award Celebrates Cultural Achievements

The Latvian Public Media’s “Kilogram of Cultures” award recognizes outstanding cultural events in Latvia. Established in 2012, the award highlights the brightest achievements in various cultural fields, with the public playing a key role in the final decision-making process.

Award Process and Categories

Nominees for the “Kilogram of Cultures” award are initially selected by a jury of cultural professionals from Latvian Public Media. However, the ultimate winners are determined by viewers and listeners through three rounds of voting – spring, autumn and winter.

This year, awards will be presented in ten categories:

• Theatre
• Visual Art
• Literature
• Pop Culture
• Start (Emerging Artists)
• Heritage
• Surprise
• Event

Behind the Scenes

Emil Carlson, involved with the ceremony, humorously noted, “Just peace! We ourselves don’t know what will happen, but it’s cool to experience it together, because together you can divide the shame in two.”

Edgar Carlson outlined the evening’s program, anticipating “ten great speeches of thanks and six musical performances. From our side, a couple of great jokes and the premiere of a new song!”
