Recent Latvian Music Show “Dziesm’avots” to Premiere on ReTV

ReTV is launching a new program cycle titled “Dziesm’avots” (Song Source) on March 23, 2026. The show will air on Mondays and Fridays at 9:30 PM, offering viewers a behind-the-scenes gaze at the creation of Latvian music.

Exploring the Stories Behind the Songs

“Dziesm’avots” will feature musician Atis Zviedris as he visits composers and singers, uncovering the stories behind legendary Latvian compositions and exploring the work of emerging artists. The program aims to reveal the often-unheard narratives of how songs are born and the creative processes involved.

Atis Zviedris on His New Role

Atis Zviedris expressed his enthusiasm for the project, noting that this is his first time hosting a television program rather than appearing as a guest. He emphasized the show’s focus on the music itself, stating, “Finally, we have a program where we don’t talk about travel, cooking, family relationships or other private topics with its characters, but instead focus on the most crucial thing – the musician’s story and his creative experiences.” ReTV

Zviedris also highlighted the challenges facing art in the current fast-paced media landscape, where news cycles are fleeting. He believes “Dziesm’avots” will provide a valuable platform for musicians to share their work and passion in a more meaningful way.

The show will feature interviews with established Latvian musicians, including Roberta Gobziņš, Ivo Fomins, Žoržs Siksna, Inga Ulmane, Aigars Voitišķis, Gunta Veita, Guntars Račs, and Siegfrieds Muktupāvels. ReTV

“Dziesm’avots” will also showcase younger artists such as Finķis, the group “Sudden Lights,” BUU, Patricia, the group “Astro’n’out,” Emilija, and Chris Noah, offering insights into their creative processes and the stories behind their popular songs.

The Inspiration Behind the Show

Ieva Gulbiņa, the author and producer of the show’s concept, explained that the idea stemmed from a curiosity about the creation of music. She noted, “Music is exactly the same work of art as a painting or a sculpture, in which a huge amount of work and energy has been invested, which the viewer and listener often do not even realize.” ReTV

Gulbiņa added that she hopes the show will acknowledge the dedication of Latvian performers and the power of music to provide comfort and support.

Format and Length

“Dziesm’avots” will consist of 16 programs, featuring 32 stories about both classic Latvian songs and contemporary hits. The show promises to offer a captivating exploration of the music that resonates with audiences and inspires emotion.
