russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the West actively prepares for a potential conflict with Russia. He made this claim during a press conference on december 11, 2025, accusing Western nations of escalating tensions through military aid to Ukraine and provocative rhetoric.

Lavrov specifically criticized the increased supply of advanced weaponry to Ukraine, arguing that these actions demonstrate a clear intent to prolong the conflict and undermine efforts toward a peaceful resolution. He further asserted that Western sanctions against Russia represent a intentional attempt to weaken the country economically and politically.

“We observe a consistent pattern of actions from the United States and its allies aimed at escalating tensions and creating a dangerous situation in Europe,” Lavrov declared. “thay openly discuss the need to ‘defeat’ Russia, which is a clear indication of their aggressive intentions.”

The Foreign Minister also pointed to the expansion of NATO and the increased military presence near Russia’s borders as further evidence of western hostility. He warned that Russia will take necessary measures to protect its security interests, without specifying what those measures might entail.

Lavrov reiterated Russia’s willingness to engage in dialog with the West, but emphasized that any negotiations must be based on mutual respect and a recognition of russia’s legitimate security concerns. He dismissed Western accusations of Russian aggression as unfounded propaganda.

Western governments have consistently denied accusations of seeking conflict with Russia, maintaining that their support for Ukraine is intended solely to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. They argue that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine constitutes a violation of international law and a threat to European security.
