Schulich Law Team Triumphs at 35th Annual Davies Corporate/Securities Law Moot
A team from Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University secured victory at the 35th annual Davies Corporate/Securities Law Moot, held in Toronto from March 6-7, 2026. Competition Details
Students argued on contemporary issues central to corporate and securities law, including defensive tactics in takeover bids and the protection of minority shareholders. DWPV The competition problem, written by Jonathan Bilyk and Michael Disney, explored issues such as the duty of confidentiality, the meaning of “material change” after the Lundin decision, the regulation of shareholder rights plans, and the protection of minority security holders. Final Round and Judges
The final round featured the top two teams competing before a distinguished five-member panel. This panel included the Honourable Justice Malcolm Rowe of the Supreme Court of Canada, the Honourable Justice Elizabeth Walker of the Federal Court of Appeal, the Honourable Justice Benjamin Zarnett of the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Honourable Justice Jane Dietrich of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and Mr. Grant Vingoe, CEO of the Ontario Securities Commission.
