Role Overview and Core Responsibilities

According to Caterpillar’s job description, the Human Resources Learning and Development Partner supports the end-to-end coordination and execution of leadership development programs. The position requires partnering closely with HR senior leaders, business stakeholders, coaches, and external vendors to manage program operations, logistics, reporting, communications, and learning initiatives.

Selected candidates will handle specific operational duties, including:

  • Coordinating logistics for leadership development programs, such as travel, lodging, vendor management, contracts, and event planning.
  • Managing program budgets, tracking expenses, monitoring vendor costs, and supporting business planning activities.
  • Maintaining program data, including participant nominations, cohorts, coaching assignments, coaching hours, leadership attendance, and program schedules.
  • Developing and reporting program metrics, diversity statistics, and stakeholder review data to assess program effectiveness.
  • Owning and maintaining program Microsoft Teams sites, learning materials, coaching resources, and program communications.
  • Supporting the internal coaching community by facilitating quarterly meetings, providing resources, and coordinating coach and coachee matching.
  • Managing program alumni engagement and ongoing participant relationships.
  • Supporting annual data privacy reviews and compliance activities for leadership development programs.
  • Consulting with stakeholders to identify learning gaps and support the design, development, and implementation of effective learning solutions.

Qualifications and Candidate Requirements

Applicants must possess a degree or equivalent experience, alongside a background in coordinating programs, learning and development initiatives, leadership development programs, training operations, HR projects, or related business programs, according to Caterpillar. The machinery manufacturer also requires strong project and program management skills to handle multiple priorities, budgets, timelines, vendors, and stakeholders simultaneously.

Additional core requirements include effective communication and consulting skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a working knowledge of learning and development practices such as instructional design, training delivery, and learning technologies.

Factors that set candidates apart include:

  • Experience supporting leadership development, executive development, coaching, or talent development programs.
  • Experience managing large-scale learning events, conferences, or leadership program logistics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 applications, learning management systems, and data reporting tools.
  • Experience partnering with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders across a global organization.
  • Knowledge of coaching programs, leadership assessments, succession planning, and talent development processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information while maintaining data privacy and compliance standards.
  • Experience creating executive-level reports, dashboards, and presentations for senior leadership reviews.

Compensation and Employment Terms

The posted salary range spans from $97,530.00 to $146,290.00, though Caterpillar notes that total compensation varies based on individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance, and experience. Eligible employees receive a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, 401(k) savings plans, Health Savings Accounts, Flexible Spending Accounts, an Employee Assistance Program, tuition reimbursement, parental leave, and incentive bonuses.
