Depart No Trace Instructor Course in Alabama: Spring 2026 Training

Wild Alabama, in partnership with Leave No Trace, is offering a Level One Instructor Course designed to equip outdoor enthusiasts and leaders with the skills to promote responsible recreation and environmental stewardship. The immersive, hands-on course will take place March 28-29, 2026, at the Wild Alabama Headquarters in Double Springs, Alabama.

Who Should Attend?

This course is ideal for a variety of individuals, including:

  • Recreational leaders
  • Scout leaders
  • Youth group leaders
  • Individuals responsible for guiding outdoor activities like hiking, camping, or rock climbing
  • Land managers
  • Individuals in leadership roles with parks, nature preserves, or privately owned recreational lands

Course Details

The Level One Instructor Course provides a deeper understanding of the Leave No Trace ethic and prepares participants to lead workshops and skills courses. The course runs daily from 9 am to 5 pm and covers both indoor and outdoor components, with wheelchair-accessible and mobility-friendly spaces ensuring inclusivity. Leave No Trace emphasizes science, education, and stewardship to protect natural resources.

What to Bring

Participants will be provided with snacks and water. Still, attendees are responsible for bringing the following:

  • Sack lunch for both days
  • Water bottle
  • Day hiking-sized backpack
  • Closed-toed hiking shoes (for the second day)

Cost and Registration

The cost of the course is $180. Registration is available through the Wild Alabama website.
