Retirement Thoughts Surface During Daily Routines
James told Nash that the realization he is nearing the final stages of his career hits him at random times throughout the day. These thoughts emerge on game days, during team bus rides to the arena, or while he reads and listens to music on flights.
The decision to eventually leave the sport depends entirely on his ability to meet his own performance expectations. James explained that if he can no longer commit to the rigorous process of waking up and training both his body and mind consistently, while feeling good afterward, he will know it is time to stop.
Motivation Driven by the Pursuit of Longevity
With his wife and three children encouraging him to keep playing, James sees no reason to retire while he still possesses the opportunity and ability to compete. He emphasized that he refuses to cut corners on the physical preparation required to maintain a high level of play.
