President Lee Defends Presidential Office and Party Alignment Amidst Legislative Debate
Seoul, South Korea – President Lee Jae-myung addressed growing concerns regarding a perceived disconnect between his administration and the Democratic Party, asserting that both entities are effectively fulfilling their respective roles. The President’s remarks came during the 6th Cabinet meeting held at the Blue House on February 24th, as reported by Newsis.
Responding to media coverage of internal party discussions, President Lee stated, “The party just needs to do its job well, and the Blue House just needs to do its job well.” He firmly dismissed suggestions that he had been marginalized, adding, “The President has never been left behind and has never felt that way.”
President Lee acknowledged the challenges faced by the Democratic Party, noting their efforts “to carry out the tasks entrusted to it by the people despite various obstacles, such as the extreme struggle of the opposition party.” He emphasized the importance of tangible results, stating, “What is more important than formalities and rituals is the results and performance felt by the people,” and reiterated that effective governance relies on a strong and capable ruling party.
The President also used the occasion to advocate for the swift passage of legislation aimed at cancelling treasury stock, expressing his hope that it would “come as soon as possible.” He voiced his difficulty in understanding the opposition to the bill, highlighting its widespread acceptance among companies and positive reception from both the public and shareholders.
Looking ahead, President Lee acknowledged a substantial workload, including the need to address measures “to prevent stock prices from being depressed,” signaling a continued focus on economic stability and market confidence.
