A criminal investigation is underway in Leganés, Spain, following reports of injuries linked to unlicensed hyaluronic acid injections, primarily for lip augmentation. The Case Unfolds
The investigation began after a patient filed a complaint with the Official College of Dentists and Stomatologists of the I Region (COEM) regarding a deformation of her lips caused by a hyaluronic acid treatment received at an establishment in Leganés. The COEM’s analysis revealed potential irregularities, leading to a complaint filed with the Local Police of Leganés and subsequent investigation by the National Police.
Authorities arrested an individual allegedly operating the establishment without the necessary health qualifications and failing to adhere to basic health and safety standards. The suspect reportedly recruited clients through an Instagram profile using the name “Russian Lips.”
Rising Number of Injuries
As of the latest reports, 75 individuals have been injured as a result of the alleged fraudulent procedures. The financial impact is similarly significant, with thousands of euros potentially lost by those who sought the treatments.

The Collegiate Medical Organization (General Council of Official Colleges of Physicians) clarified that dentists are permitted to administer hyaluronic acid within their scope of practice, specifically to areas of the mouth like the lips and cheeks. This is due to the fact that these anatomical structures are considered part of the oral cavity, falling under the purview of dental professionals.

Preliminary proceedings have been opened by the Investigation Section of the Court of Instance of Leganés, focusing on alleged crimes of professional intrusion, endangering public health, and fraud.
