Golden Goose Arena Hosts Legends Trophy Padel Tournament in Milan
The Golden Goose Arena in Milan recently played host to the Italian stage of the Legends Trophy, an international padel circuit featuring renowned football legends. The event, organized by City Padel Milano, led by Demetrio Albertini, brought together former football stars for a competitive padel tournament.
Legends on the Court
The tournament featured prominent names in football, including Shevchenko, Toni, Cambiasso, and Llorente, divided into four groups of four pairs each. Competition progressed to the Gold and Silver paths, culminating in a final match where former Spanish Juventus striker, along with Xabi Prieto, defeated Mista and Javi Guerrero to claim the trophy.
Padel’s Appeal to Football Legends
Despite some participants battling injuries – Vieri, Tacchinardi, and Fiore competed despite being sidelined – the event highlighted the growing popularity of padel among former footballers. Demetrio Albertini noted the appeal of padel as a unifying sport for those with a football background, stating, “It is a place that unites us, even if our DNA is that of football.”
Origins of the Legends Trophy
The concept of bringing together former footballers for padel and golf events originated in Spain, thanks to the vision of Guardiola. Albertini, who shares a strong connection with Guardiola and Barcelona, explained the foundation combines padel and golf, with several other football figures like Rakitic, Ronald De Boer, and Stekelenburg participating in the Milan event.
