Leica has slated the release of LUX 2.0 for the iPhone on the Apple App Store in early October, introducing a subscription model that brings lens simulations, manual controls, and external app integrations to Apple’s mobile hardware.
Leica LUX PRO Subscription and Redesigned Interface
The updated mobile photography application will launch with a free version alongside a paid tier named Leica LUX PRO. Users can access this paid option via monthly or yearly subscriptions that include a 7-day free trial.
Version 2.0 adopts the gallery screen layout from the Leica FOTOS app—software designed to connect physical Leica cameras with smartphones and tablets for image management and transfer. The updated app features a redesigned icon inspired by Leica cameras and a user interface incorporating elements of Apple’s Liquid Glass design, alongside customizable home screen icons.
Classic Lens Simulations and Pro-Level Controls
The software replicates the look and feel of classic Leica lenses and offers various Leica Looks color profiles. Photographers can manually adjust focus, exposure, ISO, and white balance.
A new filmstrip lets users select individual photos straight from the detail view, while an updated grid view supports multiple image selections. For external editing, the app adds direct support for Adobe Lightroom and Capture One alongside Darkroom. Leica optimized version 2.0 for the camera capabilities of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, committing to continuous updates with new features arriving approximately every two months.
LUX Grip Silver Hardware and MagSafe Integration
Alongside the software update, Leica introduced the LUX Grip Silver. Retaining the core functionality of the black model, the accessory features a two-stage mechanical shutter button that locks focus on a half-press and captures the image on a full press. It also includes a settings dial and two freely assignable function buttons for direct control over key shooting parameters.
The grip attaches magnetically via MagSafe and communicates with the iPhone using Bluetooth. Powered via a USB-C port, a full charge supplies enough energy for up to 1,000 shots. The hardware is compatible with the iPhone 12 and later models, and purchases include a one-year subscription to Leica LUX PRO. The LUX Grip Silver is scheduled to go on sale on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
The LUX Case for iPhone 18 Pro Models
To complement the hardware, Leica designed the LUX Case exclusively for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max to work alongside the LUX Grip. The case features a black leather exterior, a red microfiber interior, and an integrated camera button instead of a traditional cutout. It supports MagSafe connections for the LUX Grip and other compatible accessories and is slated for release in October.
