Leonard Cohen Honored With New Performances Across Canada

Leonard Cohen died in his sleep at his Los Angeles home on Nov. 7, 2016, but a decade later, the Montreal-born poet and songwriter remains a central figure in the city’s arts scene. As the 10th anniversary of his death approaches, a series of commemorative performances and public art installations are scheduled to honor his legacy.

A Permanent Monument on the Montreal Skyline

The physical presence of the artist in his hometown is anchored by the "Tower of Songs," a 22-storey mural that has loomed over the city since 2017. Created by artists Miles MacGregor and Gene Pendon, the massive likeness of Cohen serves as a permanent landmark. The mural recently gained international attention after actor Anthony Hopkins shared an Instagram video of himself dancing to Cohen’s "Dance Me to the End of Love" in a hotel room with a direct view of the artwork.
