Lerone Murphy Admits UFC Title Plans Made Him “Fall Out of Love” With MMA
Lerone Murphy has admitted that learning about plans for the featherweight title at UFC 325 made him fall out of love with MMA altogether.
The number-four ranked featherweight is undefeated, and after defeating Aaron Pico at UFC 319 with a stunning knockout seemed to have staked his claim for a title shot. at the very least, he would have seen himself as closer to a shot than Diego Lopes who lost a vacant title fight as recently as April.
though, both Murphy and top contender Movsar Evloev missed out on a title possibility to Lopes, who has just one win as that title defeat. The pair could be set to fight one another next, but fans have expressed outrage at the seemingly ridiculous matchmaking.

Lerone Murphy Admits Loss of Passion for MMA After UFC 325 Main Event Announcement
Lerone Murphy has revealed he “fell out of love” with mixed martial arts following the announcement of a UFC 325 main event between Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria. The featherweight contender expressed his disappointment, believing he was deserving of the title shot opportunity.
“I was supposed to get that fight, and it didn’t happen, and you no I’m going to be champion. My road’s never been easy from the get-go,” Murphy stated, according to Bloody Elbow.
The UFC ultimately chose to book a rematch between Volkanovski, the former featherweight champion, and Topuria, who defeated him in February 2024 to claim the title. This decision bypassed Murphy, who had been on a strong winning streak and was widely considered a top contender.
Murphy’s frustration stems from a perceived lack of recognition for his accomplishments within the division. While he remains confident in his future success and eventual championship reign, the immediate aftermath of the UFC 325 announcement left him disillusioned with the sport.
