The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia has announced its 2026–2027 opera and concert season, securing performances from several major international vocalists across the operatic, baroque, lied, and bel canto repertoires, according to announcements from the Generalitat Valenciana.
Vocal Headliners and Recital Series
According to official announcements, the upcoming season features a notable concentration of international sopranos and mezzosopranos. The schedule includes Lise Davidsen, Cecilia Bartoli, Lisette Oropesa, Ermonela Jaho, Eleonora Buratto, Angela Brower, Ricarda Merbeth, Camilla Nylund, and Sabine Devieilhe.
Cecilia Bartoli will open the ‘Les Arts és Grans Veus’ cycle on November 11, performing alongside pianist Lang Lang. The pair will present a four-century musical journey spanning works from Alessandro Scarlatti to Ernesto De Curtis, including arias by Händel, Schubert, Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, and Puccini.
On February 4, 2027, Norwegian soprano Lise Davidsen will perform the role of Brünnhilde for the first time before an audience at Les Arts, singing the third act of Richard Wagner’s Die Walküre alongside Christopher Maltman. The Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana will perform under the direction of Sir Mark Elder.
Lisette Oropesa returns to Valencia on March 11, 2027, for a bel canto program featuring works by Bellini, Donizetti, Meyerbeer, and Rossini. Conductor Corrado Rovaris will lead the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana for the evening.
Operatic Productions and Premieres
The staged opera schedule opens in October with Georges Bizet’s Carmen, featuring mezzosoprano Vasilisa Berzhanskaya in the title role. Ruth Iniesta will sing the role of Micaëla, marking her seventh role at the Valencia venue.
In December, Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin comes to the stage, featuring soprano Ricarda Merbeth as Ortrud and Jennifer Davis as Elsa von Brabant. Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito opens the 2027 opera slate with a cast including mezzosoprano Angela Brower as Sesto, alongside Anastasia Bartoli and Rosalía Cid.
Eleonora Buratto returns in February 2027 to sing Amelia Grimaldi in Giuseppe Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra, with Sir Mark Elder conducting. Les Arts will also stage contemporary opera on April 24, 2027, with the premiere of John Adams’s Nixon in China, marking the venue debut of Marlis Petersen.
Albanian soprano Ermonela Jaho will close the lyric season in June 2027 in Francesco Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur, marking her first staged production at Les Arts.
Lied Recitals and Ticket Information
The ‘Les Arts és Lied’ series features Camilla Nylund in recital on April 18, 2027. French soprano Sabine Devieilhe will make her Valencia debut on June 3, 2027, performing a program of pieces by Mélanie Bonis, Marguerite Canal, and Claude Debussy.
