Austin Public Library Celebrates 100 Years with New Community-Designed Library Cards
The Austin Public Library (APL) marked its 100th anniversary in 2021 with a new set of library cards designed by local artists and selected through a public voting process, according to the APL’s official website. The library partnered with the Austin Creative Alliance to solicit submissions from local artists, resulting in 50 original designs. A panel of APL staff and community members narrowed the entries to 10 finalists, which were then open to public voting from June to July 2021. The winning designs, unveiled in August 2021, include vibrant patterns inspired by Austin’s cultural landmarks and natural landscapes, according to a press release from the APL.
