‘One Battle After Another’ Secures Producers Guild Award, Solidifying Oscar Frontrunner Status
Paul Thomas Anderson’s darkly comedic action-thriller, “One Battle After Another,” has won the Producers Guild Award for theatrical motion picture, further cementing its position as the favorite to win Best Picture at the upcoming Academy Awards on March 15th. The win, announced on February 28, 2026, follows previous victories at the Golden Globes, British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), and Directors Guild of America (DGA) awards.
A Dominating Awards Season Run
The Producers Guild Award is widely considered a key indicator of Oscar success. Since 2009, the PGA winner has gone on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture in all but three instances. While Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners,” which received a record-breaking 16 Oscar nominations, remains a contender, “One Battle After Another” has consistently prevailed at major ceremonies in recent weeks. “Sinners” has one remaining opportunity to influence the outcome at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on Sunday, where the cast award could potentially shift momentum, though this prize is not as strong a predictor as the PGA award.
Anderson’s Emotional Acceptance Speech
During the awards ceremony, Paul Thomas Anderson addressed Warner Bros. Film chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, acknowledging their support for his film and for other unconventional filmmakers like Ryan Coogler and Zach Cregger, whose films “Sinners” and “Weapons” were also nominated for the top PGA honor. He praised De Luca and Abdy for championing original material and protecting the creative vision of the filmmakers they worked with. Anderson also alluded to the recent sale of Warner Bros. Discovery to Paramount Skydance, stating, “Long may you wave, whatever the future holds. It is one battle after another.”
Other PGA Award Winners
In addition to “One Battle After Another,” the Producers Guild Awards recognized excellence in other categories:
- Best Animated Film: “KPop Demon Hunters”
- Best Documentary: “My Mom Jayne: A Film by Mariska Hargitay”
- Best Drama Series: “The Pitt”
- Best Comedy Series: “The Studio”
Looking Ahead to the Oscars
With the Producers Guild Award now secured, “One Battle After Another” appears poised to continue its successful run and potentially take home the top prize at the Academy Awards. Oscar voting concludes on Thursday, March 12th, 2026.
