Lil Poppa Dies at 25: Hip Hop Mourns Rising Star

The hip hop community is in mourning following the death of Lil Poppa, born Janarious Mykel Wheeler, at the age of 25. News of his passing spread on Wednesday, February 18th.

According to a statement from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, Lil Poppa was pronounced deceased at 11:23 a.m. ET. The manner and cause of death are currently under investigation People.

Rising Star and Recent Release

Lil Poppa signed with Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group in 2022. He recently released his latest single, “Out Of Town Bae,” on February 13th. He was as well scheduled to perform at the Birthday Bash concert in New Orleans next month.

Following the news, fellow artists and fans took to social media to express their grief and pay tribute to Lil Poppa. Mozzy shared a photo of Poppa on his Instagram Stories with a heartbroken emoji People. Nardo Wick posted, “Rest up, Poppa,” on his Stories. Caroline “Baroline” Diaz, Poppa’s former A&R, expressed her devastation on X, stating she was “so broken” by the loss People. Rob49 tweeted his disbelief, and Lil Duval shared a clip of Poppa discussing their 2022 collaboration, “Kickin The Clouds,” expressing his deep sadness.

Last August, Lil Poppa released his 16-song album, Almost Normal Again, through Collective Music Group. The album featured collaborations with Yungeen Ace, Seddy Hendrinx, and EELmatic.
