Eli Lilly Launches Zepbound KwikPen for More Convenient Weight Management
Eli Lilly and Company announced on Monday the availability of a new delivery option for its blockbuster obesity drug, Zepbound (tirzepatide): the Zepbound KwikPen. This multi-dose pen offers patients a more convenient way to administer the medication, reducing the number of devices needed each month.
What is Zepbound KwikPen?
The Zepbound KwikPen is a disposable, multi-dose, single-patient-use prefilled pen designed to deliver weekly doses of Zepbound. Unlike the current regimen, which requires a new single-dose auto-injector each week, or the use of vials and syringes, the KwikPen contains four full doses, allowing patients to complete a month’s treatment with a single device.
Pricing and Availability
The KwikPen is currently available for cash-paying patients through LillyDirect, the company’s direct-to-consumer website. Prices start at $299 per month for the lowest dose level. Lilly is likewise working with the federal government to produce Zepbound available to millions of Americans through Medicare and Medicaid programs.
Zepbound’s Growing Market Share
The launch of the KwikPen comes as Zepbound continues to experience significant growth in the weight loss drug market. In the fourth quarter of 2023, Zepbound generated $4.2 billion in U.S. Revenue, a 122% increase compared to the previous year. This success has enabled Eli Lilly to capture a majority share of the market, surpassing rival Novo Nordisk.
KwikPen Technology – Beyond Zepbound
The KwikPen device is not new to Lilly; it is already used for other medications, including Mounjaro, a popular diabetes treatment. The FDA has approved a label expansion for Zepbound to include the multi-dose KwikPen device.
