Man Charged After Assault Leaves Limerick Hip-Hop Artist Partially Blind
A man in his 20s has been charged in connection with a serious assault that occurred in Limerick city on March 28, 2026, leaving hip-hop artist Tobi Omoteso with permanent vision damage in one eye. The incident, described as a road rage incident, took place on Old Cratloe Road.
Details of the Assault
Tobi Omoteso, a director of the TOP 8 street dance company in Limerick, stated he was finishing packing equipment after the Treaty City’s Top 8 Hip Hop and Street Dance Festival when the assault occurred. According to Omoteso, another man was waiting in his car, blocking traffic and then allegedly followed him through the city.
The assailant reportedly forced his way in front of Omoteso’s vehicle and began striking the car with a wooden bat, shattering the driver’s side window. Shards of glass entered Omoteso’s eyes, causing significant injury.
Arrest and Court Appearance
Gardaí arrested the man on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, and he has since been charged. He is due to appear before Limerick District Court on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Community Support and Recovery
A GoFundMe page established on behalf of Omoteso has raised almost €80,000 to support his medical expenses and ongoing living costs. An update on the page stated the funds will assist with “ongoing living, medical, and support costs as Tobi adjusts to life with sight loss.”
Omoteso is facing a “long, agonising road of surgeries” to attempt to preserve what vision remains.

Gardaí confirmed the arrest of a man in his 20s as part of the investigation into the serious assault on Old Cratloe Road on March 28, 2026.
