Live Nation completes acquisition of Paris La Défense Arena

Live Nation has completed its acquisition of Paris La Défense Arena, Europe’s largest indoor venue, after a shift in French antitrust regulations removed the need for regulatory approval. The American entertainment giant, which operates ticketing platform Ticketmaster, finalized the deal with Ovalto, the holding company of businessman Jacky Lorenzetti, following regulatory changes that took effect on September 1.

French Antitrust Oversight Avoided Via New Revenue Thresholds

The transaction bypasses review by France’s Autorité de la concurrence due to a French economic simplification law implemented on September 1. The legislative update raised financial oversight thresholds based on corporate revenues. Following the reform, the annual revenue of the company operating Paris La Défense Arena dropped below the newly established €80 million threshold, exempting the transaction from mandatory antitrust clearance.

The deal was originally unveiled in January and required a multi-month review to evaluate potential market dominance risks before the legislative change altered the jurisdiction rules. Despite the clearance, the Autorité de la concurrence noted it will remain watchful regarding the operation’s market impacts.

From Nanterre Concerts to Olympic Aquatics

Inaugurated in 2017 in Nanterre as U Arena, the 45,000-capacity indoor venue has undergone multiple name changes, most recently operating as Plenitude Arena following a partnership with Italian energy group ENI. The multi-purpose facility has hosted major international acts including the Rolling Stones, Kendrick Lamar, and Taylor Swift. Beyond music concerts, the venue serves as the home stadium for rugby club Racing 92 and hosted swimming and water polo events during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Live Nation completes acquisition of Paris La Défense Arena

Celine Dion is currently performing a residency at the venue, marking her return to the global stage.

Capital Improvements and Producer Openness Promised

Live Nation announced intentions to invest in the facility to upgrade public and artist accommodations, modernize technical equipment, and schedule additional event dates. The company stated that the venue will remain accessible to all external event producers and promoters.

"Live Nation will invest to improve public and artist hospitality, modernize the venue’s equipment, increase the number of available dates and strengthen attractiveness for French and international artists and event organizers," the company said in a statement.
