Longines Spirit Collection Expands with New Flyback Chronograph and Pilot Models

Longines, a brand with a rich history in aviation and horology dating back to 1832, has expanded its Spirit collection with the introduction of the Spirit Pilot Flyback and the updated Spirit Pilot. These new timepieces build upon the collection’s established aesthetic while incorporating enhanced functionality and refined design elements.

A Legacy of Precision and Innovation

Longines’ involvement in aviation milestones is extensive, including the creation of the first high-frequency timer capable of measuring one hundredth of a second in 1916 and the first wristwatch to display a second time zone in 1925. The brand’s dedication to precision timing has made it a trusted partner for aviation pioneers and a supplier of instruments for navigation and timekeeping. Longines is a member of the Swatch Group Ltd.

Spirit Pilot Flyback: A Smaller, Enhanced Package

The new Spirit Pilot Flyback features a 39.5-millimetre stainless steel case, a reduction in size compared to the existing 42-millimetre flyback chronographs in the Spirit collection. Despite the smaller size, the watch incorporates several enhancements, including a bidirectional rotating bezel with a black ceramic insert featuring a countdown timer. The watch has a thickness of 13.4 millimetres. A box sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment and a matte black dial, paired with gold-colored hands and applied numerals treated with Super-Luminova, enhance contrast and legibility, paying homage to vintage aviation instruments.

Calibre L792.4: The Engine Within

The Spirit Pilot Flyback is powered by the COSC-certified manual-winding Longines calibre L792.4. This movement features a column-wheel chronograph mechanism with a flyback function and a silicon balance spring for improved precision and magnetic resistance. It offers a power reserve of 68 hours and is water-resistant to 100 metres. A see-through screw-down caseback allows a view of the movement, and the watch is available with either a stainless steel bracelet or a brown leather strap, both equipped with a microadjustment folding clasp.

Spirit Pilot: Refined Ergonomics and Legibility

Alongside the Flyback, Longines has also updated the three-hand Spirit Pilot model. The redesigned 39-millimetre stainless steel case boasts improved ergonomics. The date window and five-star emblem have been removed to prioritize functionality and enhance legibility, and the minute track has been refined. These updates maintain the tool-watch heritage of the Spirit collection while adhering to its original aesthetic codes.

Pricing and Availability

The Longines Spirit Pilot Flyback is priced starting at USD 6,780. The 1916 Company is an authorized dealer for Longines.
