Cranio Creations Marks Ten-Year Anniversary of Lorenzo il Magnifico With Collected Edition and New Retail Game

Italian publisher Cranio Creations is marking the ten-year anniversary of its 2016 board game Lorenzo il Magnifico by launching a crowdfunding campaign for a collected edition titled Lorenzo il Magnifico: Prima Lux, wericmartin.com reported. Designed originally by Flaminia Brasini, Virginio Gigli, and Simone Luciani, the original game spawned one large expansion and eight small ones over the decade.

The upcoming Gamefound campaign will offer Prima Lux exclusively through crowdfunding, featuring the base game, all expansions, and completely new art. Alongside it, the campaign introduces Lorenzo il Magnifico: Maiestas, a new design by Brasini, Gigli, and Luciani that will eventually see a standard retail release.

How Maiestas Refines the Original Mechanics

Maiestas keeps the core mechanics of the 2016 original while incorporating a decade of player feedback and selecting the most popular expansions. Cranio Creations adjusted several elements, such as introducing new costs for visiting an occupied tower and revamping the production and work areas to alleviate the feeling of limitation found in the original game.

The new design expands the development card pool. While the original game used 96 cards divided into four types across three ages, Maiestas includes twelve cards of each type per age. During setup, players randomly draw eight cards from each pile of twelve, which changes the available options every game. Additional leaders and unique house abilities round out the tactical variety.

Oil Rock Brings Industry Strategy to SPIEL Essen 26

Designed by Marco Piola Caselli with art by Giovanni Calore and Klemens Franz, the 2-4 player game challenges participants to control an expanding oil company, optimize refining chains, and build market reputation.
