Man Pleads Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity to Triple Murder in County Louth
A 32-year-old man has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the murder of three family members at their home in County Louth. Robert O’Connor, of Drumgowna, Louth Village, Dundalk, Co Louth, is charged with killing his mother, Louise O’Connor, his father, Mark O’Connor, and his younger brother, Evan O’Connor, between 28 and 29 September 2025. The Central Criminal Court heard the plea on Wednesday, with O’Connor responding “not guilty by reason of insanity” to each of the three murder charges.
Judge Warns Jury of Distressing Evidence
Ms Justice Siobhan Lankford warned potential jurors that some pathology evidence could be “difficult or distressing.” The judge emphasized that jurors must set aside sympathies and approach the trial “in an objective fashion.” She also informed the panel that the trial could last up to three weeks, with the jury required to remain available until 30 October. The trial is set to begin today at 2pm before Mr Justice Mícheál P. O’Higgins.
