LTFRB Rushes Financial Aid to TNVS Drivers Before Holy Week
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is expediting the distribution of financial assistance to Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) drivers in Metro Manila before the start of Holy Week, according to Chairman Atty. Vigor Mendoza. The move aims to support drivers facing economic challenges, despite some data encoding issues reported by Transport Network Companies (TNCs).
Addressing Data Discrepancies
Atty. Mendoza acknowledged that errors in driver data submitted by TNCs have created some hurdles in the payout process. However, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is working to resolve these issues and ensure timely disbursement of funds.
Nationwide Rollout Post-Holy Week
Even as the primary focus is on assisting TNVS drivers in Metro Manila before Holy Week, the nationwide implementation of the financial assistance program is scheduled to begin immediately after the holiday. The LTFRB aims to complete the distribution to all eligible drivers as quickly as possible.
Government Support for PUV Drivers
In addition to the TNVS driver assistance, the government is similarly planning to charter Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) to provide free rides. This initiative is designed to ensure fair compensation for PUV drivers. The program is currently backed by a ₱700-million fund, with the LTFRB seeking additional funding to expand its reach.
TNC Data Submission Issues
Recent reports indicate that some TNCs initially filtered the list of TNVS drivers based on activity within a 30-day period. The LTFRB has requested TNCs to submit complete driver lists without filtering, to facilitate the processing of financial assistance.
Fare Hike Discussions
The LTFRB also recently held a meeting with TNVS stakeholders to discuss proposed fare hikes and other concerns within the sector. The agency is committed to a fair and organized discussion of these requests, considering the impact on both commuters and the economy. and
