Lynx Gymnastics Club Remains in Limbo a Month After Fire, Despite Community Efforts
A month after a fire destroyed the Lynx Gymnastics facility in St. Paul, Minnesota, the club remains without a permanent location, according to local officials and community leaders. The blaze, which occurred on March 15, 2023, damaged the building housing the club’s training center, forcing athletes and staff to relocate temporarily.
“The facility is still not safe to reoccupy, and we’re working with city officials to determine next steps,” said St. Paul Fire Department spokesperson Emily Tran. “The priority is ensuring the safety of everyone involved.”

Community Outpouring Supports Recovery Efforts
Despite the uncertainty, the Lynx Gymnastics community has mobilized to support the club’s recovery. A GoFundMe campaign launched within days of the fire raised over $200,000, with donations coming from local families, athletes, and national gymnastics organizations.
“This isn’t just a club—it’s a family,” said Lynx Gymnastics coach Marcus Lee. “The community has rallied in ways I never expected.”
The club has been operating out of a temporary space at the St. Paul Recreation Center since the fire, but officials say the arrangement is not sustainable long-term. “We’re looking at options, but the cost of rebuilding or relocating is significant,” said club director Sarah Nguyen. “We need more support to move forward.”
Challenges in Rebuilding
The fire has highlighted broader challenges facing small sports organizations in the wake of disasters. Lynx Gymnastics, which serves over 500 athletes annually, has faced delays in insurance claims and permits, according to a March 2023 report by Minnesota Public Radio.
“Insurance processes can be slow, and we’re still waiting for an assessment of the damage,” Nguyen added. “Every day without a permanent space is a setback for our athletes.”
Local leaders have called for state and federal aid to support the club. “This is a vital part of our community’s youth development,” said St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter. “We’re exploring all options to help them recover.”
What’s Next for Lynx Gymnastics?
As the club seeks a long-term solution, athletes and families remain hopeful. A fundraising event scheduled for April 20, 2023, aims to raise additional funds, while officials continue negotiations with city planners.
“We’re not giving up,” Lee said. “This club has survived challenges before, and we’ll find a way to keep training.”
For now, the Lynx Gymnastics community waits, balancing
