The Lyric League Series returned to Detroit’s 8 Mile corridor, establishing production at Ken’s BBQ for an on-location cypher that spotlighted local lyricists. Presented by The Punchline Academy on Shade 45, the latest installment brought together neighborhood artists recruited directly from the city by Mikey Eckstein.
Eckstein traveled into Detroit to scout rappers prepared to represent the Motor City, connecting a street-level search for talent with the actual performance. This setup at Ken’s BBQ placed the series inside a local business where participants stepped to the microphone individually to introduce their styles through their delivery, verses, timing, and presence.
Amadeuz Provides Shared Instrumental for Cypher
Da Inphamus Amadeuz, who hosts The Punchline Academy, contributed an original instrumental to serve as the shared musical foundation for the cypher. By utilizing a single beat for the entire session, listeners are provided a direct way to compare how different MCs approach identical production through their word choice, phrasing, and cadence.
In addition to his hosting duties, Amadeuz operates as a producer, artist, entrepreneur, and videographer, alongside past experience making guest DJ appearances for the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The Punchline Academy broadcasts Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Eastern and 6 p.m. Pacific on SiriusXM channel Shade 45, combining freestyles alongside established and emerging voices from across the genre while also producing “The Left Lane Mix.”
Lyric League Series Showcases Regional Detroit Talent
The Lyric League Series builds upon the broader radio platform by executing on-location sessions designed to give performers a dedicated performance space while offering audiences an introduction to regional talent. Detroit’s historic relationship with Hip Hop served as the backdrop for the gathering, while the performing local MCs remained the central focus.

Following the release of the Detroit edition, producers are actively inviting viewers to participate in the conversation by evaluating the performances and sharing their choice for the strongest verse in the comments of the presentation.
