“This is a true story, and she answered me back and, I don’t know, within weeks we were in the studio together, and it was fabulous,” Madonna said during the broadcast.

Singer-songwriter and director Taylor Swift finished the night as the second most-decorated artist, taking home three awards. Swift won in a newly introduced VMA category, artist director, and premiered the music video for her latest track, “Patient Zero.” With her latest victories, Swift made VMA history by earning 33 awards in her career.
