Maersk is revising its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for shipments from Far East Asia to several Southern African countries, effective March 23rd, 2026, with price calculations beginning March 24th, 2026, for Vietnam origins. This adjustment aims to accommodate increased demand and ensure continued reliable service.

Affected Destinations

The surcharge applies to shipments destined for the following countries:

• Mozambique
• Madagascar
• Seychelles
• Botswana
• Comoro Islands
• Lesotho
• Malawi
• Swaziland (Eswatini)
• Zambia
• Zimbabwe

Surcharge Details

The revised surcharge applies to non-SPOT bookings. For non-Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) regulated shipments, the Price Calculation Date (PCD) is the scheduled departure date of the first water leg at the time of booking confirmation. For FMC-regulated shipments, the PCD is the last container gate-in date. The PSS is not applicable to SPOT bookings.

Additional Surcharges and Regulatory Considerations

The announced rates are subject to other applicable surcharges, including local charges and contingency charges. These rates are independent of any tariffs notified, published, or filed in accordance with local regulatory requirements.

For trades subject to the US Shipping Act or the China Maritime Regulations, any quotations or surcharges differing from the Maersk tariff are not binding unless included in a filed service contract or amendment with the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) or the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.
