Northwestern Tennis Welcomes Cyrus Mahjoob as Big Ten Player to Watch
EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern University tennis player Cyrus Mahjoob has been recognized as a Big Ten Player to Watch, the conference announced on Friday. The junior transfer from the University of Georgia is poised to make a significant impact during his first full season with the Wildcats.
mahjoob demonstrated promising performance during the fall competition season, securing his first victory as a Wildcat at the ITA All-American Championships in September. He defeated Leo Lopez Linquet of Nebraska in consolation play with a score of 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1).His success continued at the ITA midwest Regional in October, where he advanced to the round of 16, including a notable win over Alexander Bernard from ohio State (1-6, 6-3, 6-4).
Head Coach Arvid Swan has assembled a revamped roster for the 2025-26 season, with Mahjoob being one of six new additions. He is joined by fellow transfers Dylan Charlap and Ethan Schiffman, alongside promising first-year players Cooper Han, Dylan Fayerman, and Jacob Golden.
Mahjoob and the Northwestern wildcats will begin their dual season campaign on Saturday, January 17th, against Vanderbilt at the Combe Tennis Centre. The team looks forward to building on the momentum established during the fall season and competing at a high level within the Big Ten Conference.
