Francis W. Parker School, a renowned Chicago independent day school, is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to join its Facilities team. The position, based in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, offers a competitive hourly rate and comprehensive benefits package.

Job Summary

Founded in 1901, Francis W. Parker School currently enrolls 940 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade and employs approximately 265 faculty and staff members [1]. The Maintenance Technician will report to the Assistant Director of Facilities and will be responsible for maintaining the school’s buildings, grounds, and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and routine maintenance to ensure the school facility is functional, safe, and code-compliant.
  • Conduct major and minor repairs to both the interior and exterior of buildings.
  • Perform carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, drywall, and lock repairs.
  • Assist with groundskeeping and landscaping duties, including snow removal.
  • Assist with housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and other maintenance personnel.
  • Set up and break down equipment for school events.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Schedule & Compensation

This is a full-time, non-exempt position requiring 40 hours per week. The schedule is primarily for 2nd shift, approximately 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with a rotating Sunday shift from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Occasional overtime and additional weekend work may be required.

The hourly rate is $25-$30, based on experience, with a comprehensive benefits package included [1].

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work. Basic HVAC experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Johnson Metasys building control system (or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Self-directed, flexible, reliable, and punctual.
  • Good communication and strong organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills (email, MS Word, and Excel).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
