The Ayuntamiento de Majadahonda will host the 10th edition of the city’s Book Fair from October 1 to 4 in the Plaza de Colón. This year’s event features Mexico as the guest country to celebrate its literary wealth and cultural dialogue.
The fair will include 17 bookstores and publishing houses, an increase of two over the previous year. A total of 142 authors are scheduled to sign books across these stalls, which include Editorial Almadía, Editorial Bunker Books, Libros Indie / Con M de Mujer, Maniac Ediciones, Editorial Emonautas y Serendipias de tinta, Ediciones Ruser, El desván de la Memoria, Librería Ofisierra, Librería La Isla de los cuentos, Editorial Esstudio Ediciones, Editorial Nueva Estrella/Nuevos Ekkos, Editorial Palabras de agua, Editorial Maluma, Editorial Ybernia, Librería Sirnilan Comics, Editorial Armaenia, and Librería JJ.
Mexican Literature and Craftsmanship
The fair’s inauguration on Thursday, October 1, will feature Daniela Tarazona, a Mexican editor, essayist, and writer who received the 2022 Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Literature Prize. Tarazona is the author of works including “Isla partida,” “El corazón habitante,” “El beso de la liebre,” and “El animal sobre la piedra.”
In addition to literary events, the fair will highlight Mexican tradition through a “Mexican Basketry: tradition and creativity” workshop held on Friday afternoon to introduce visitors to the guest country’s craftsmanship.
Programming for All Ages
A central tent in the Plaza de Colón will host free participatory activities for adults and children. The schedule includes:
- Thursday and Friday: Activities for 4th-grade primary students from Majadahonda schools titled “The Cases of Detective Pepita Mugg,” where an investigator of classic fairy tale mysteries encourages children to believe in the magic of books.
- Saturday, October 3: A poetry event for all ages called “Poems a la carte. With humor to poetry,” followed by an “Accordion Binding” family workshop and “You create the ending” for children aged 5 to 12.
- Sunday, October 4: A personalized bookmark creation workshop and an oral narration titled “All the chocolate in the world.”
Closing Events
The X Feria del Libro de Majadahonda will conclude with a presentation and poetic recital by “Grupo 7,” a group consisting of nine poets.
