Toronto Police Arrest Corey Peter Lane After Thanksgiving Food Rescue Truck Vandalism

Toronto police arrested a 29-year-old man following the theft of catalytic converters from seven Second Harvest food rescue trucks over the Thanksgiving weekend, Global News reported. Acting Supt. Jeff Bangild announced the arrest Thursday, stating that investigators executed a search warrant at a home in Oakville on Wednesday. The vandalism left the charity’s vehicles out of service just as staff prepared for a scheduled Thanksgiving turkey giveaway.

Oakville Search Warrant Leads to Charges for Corey Peter Lane

Police report that Corey Peter Lane is facing a variety of charges, which consist of three counts of break and enter with intent to commit a criminal offence, three counts of failing to comply with a release order, and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order. Bangild alleged that Lane was involved in two additional catalytic converter thefts in south Etobicoke, linking the three break-and-enter charges to both the Second Harvest incident and those separate cases. Global News acquired a two-year probation order signed by Lane in 2025 that indicates he was directed to pay $67,000 in restitution regarding more than a dozen offences that occurred between 2022 and 2024.

April 2024 Conviction for Similar Fleet Thefts in Etobicoke

In April 2024, Lane received a conviction for theft over $5,000 concerning the theft of catalytic converters from eight delivery trucks belonging to the Clothing Pickup for Cerebral Palsy in Etobicoke. A representative for that charity informed Global News that the episode required an expenditure of over $107,000 for rental trucks while the repairs were underway and for constructing a fence to discourage future thefts. The 2025 probation order included $35,000 in restitution earmarked for the Clothing Pickup for Cerebral Palsy, though a charity spokesperson stated that they believed it’s money they will likely never see.

Repair Costs and Corporate Donations Mitigate Second Harvest Impact

Repairs for the seven damaged Second Harvest trucks are expected to cost approximately $80,000 and take two to three weeks to complete, CEO Lori Nikkel said. Nikkel announced Wednesday that Aurora Importing donated $60,000 to help the organization cover those repair costs. Duncan Salisbury, Second Harvest’s vice president of supply chain and logistics, told Global News that he feels relieved an arrest was made and noted that community partners stepped up to help the charity maintain its service.
