Man Dies After Severe Attack in Joliot-Curie Metro Station Elevator
A man discovered in critical condition inside an elevator at the Joliot-Curie metro station in Sofia later died in the hospital, according to reports from bTV Novinite and NOVA. Sofia City Directorate of Interior (SDVR) officials stated that emergency services responded to the scene at approximately 1:00 PM after the victim was found gravely injured.
Metropolitan EAD, the company operating the capital’s underground transit network, characterized the incident as a severe criminal act. Law enforcement officers immediately cordoned off the station area to conduct forensic investigations and gather evidence.
Emergency Response and Investigation at the Scene
Medical teams transported the injured man from the Joliot-Curie metro station to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Investigators secured the surrounding area as police personnel and transit authorities began examining the elevator shaft and surrounding access points for clues.

NOVA reported that approximately three hours after the initial emergency response—around 4:00 PM—a separate incident occurred at another station when a person jumped onto the tracks along Line 1.
Subsequent Track Incident at Alexander Malinov Station
Metropolitan EAD confirmed that train movements along Line 1 experienced temporary delays following the second incident at Alexander Malinov station. Transit employees and police officers intervened quickly, removing the individual from the rail line within minutes.
Authorities reported that the person involved in the track incident survived, though updates regarding their medical status were not immediately released. Normal train intervals resumed shortly after staff cleared the tracks. Metropolitan EAD issued a public reminder urging passengers to adhere strictly to safety protocols across the entire underground transit system.
