Suspect Arrested for Theft and Assaulting Police Officer During Secondhand Goods Transaction
A man in his 30s has been arrested in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, on charges of theft and obstruction of justice after allegedly stealing a jumper from a clothing store and subsequently assaulting a police officer during an attempted transaction via a secondhand trading application. The Suwon Paldal Police Station announced plans to seek an arrest warrant on February 16, 2026.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the suspect, identified as Mr. A, allegedly stole a jumper from a clothing store in Paldal-gu, Suwon, around 10 p.m. On February 15, 2026. He then attempted to sell the stolen item through a secondhand trading app. The victim, Mr. B, discovered the missing clothing while conducting an inventory check and subsequently identified the item listed on the app, reporting the incident to the police.
Mr. B arranged a meeting with the suspect at a designated transaction location, accompanied by police officers. When officers approached Mr. A to verify his identity, he allegedly drove away in his SUV, with a police officer clinging to the vehicle. The officer sustained bruises as a result of being dragged approximately 10 meters.
Arrest and Investigation
Following the incident, police tracked Mr. A’s vehicle and apprehended him 45 minutes later at a nearby commercial building. Authorities are currently investigating the extent of the suspect’s theft, including the timeframe, methods used, and the total value of stolen goods. Yonhap News reports a police official stated that the full scope of the suspect’s activities will be determined after a thorough investigation.
